THE HISTORY OF "THE RIDE FOR THE UNBORN"
During the 2012 session of the Virginia General Assembly, state legislators considered a bill that would assist in the protection of the life of unborn children. There was a large protest from pro-abortion groups that can only be described as hate-filled. They jeered and attempted to bully pro-life legislators from both political parties and mocked anyone who dared to stand up for God’s precious gift-of-life. Unfortunately, that type of bullying can be effective. It can sway legislators from advocacy and it can move people of faith to silence. So the question was, "As Christians, how do we counter this?".
The answer? We countered it in a Christ-like way that glorified God and celebrated the sanctity-of-life! On a beautiful Saturday afternoon in September of 2012, bikers from all across the Commonwealth of Virginia gathered for the Inaugural "Ride for the Unborn" sponsored by The Family Foundation of Virginia. Originally created solely to bring attention to the cause of precious unborn children, the event now seeks to raise funds for pregnancy resource centers and their vital ministry to our communities. The staffers and volunteers of these resource centers offer hope to the hopeless, compassion to women and men in crisis, and life-affirming alternatives to the horrific procedure of abortion. It is our blessing to support their very important work. Each year, the "Ride for the Unborn" benefits a different Virginia pregnancy resource center and their mission of love and compassion.
We have been blessed to have ministry groups, clubs and individual riders involved in this "rolling thunder for the unborn" each-and-every year. All riders are welcome! In 2016, the SBC of Virginia took over as the primary sponsor for the event in association with The Family Foundation of Virginia and the very generous support of organizations like FAITH Riders, London Bridge Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Charlottesville - Park Street, Hampton Roads Biker Events, Iron Horse Fellowship and the Motorcycle Law Group. The parade of bikes is an incredible sight to behold! Are you ready to take a stand for the unborn? Are you ready to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with fellow bikers providing a voice for the voiceless? Join with us to leave no doubt that Virginia Stands for Life!
